Voice recording issues

My 30 second grade students love using this app on their iPads. It’s very intuitive and easy to learn. The problem is the recording feature. It fails to work on at least 8-10 of our devices. This is frustrating as kids love to listen to one another’s stories during shared reading. They also like to reflect their stories onto the SmartBoard; it’s not the same without audio.

At first I thought it may be an iPad issue, but its internal microphone works for everything else. I’ve tried uninstalling/reinstalling the app to no avail.
